Alt Attribute & SEO Optimization

SEO Optimization images is becoming increasingly more essential in SEO (Seo optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is a critical step that is sometimes forgotten. This can be a lost chance of better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise using alternative text for the images in your site:

Images:. Use the alt attribute to provide descriptive text. Additionally, we recommend utilizing a human-readable caption and descriptive text round the image.

Why would they ask us to do that? The answer is simple, really; search engines have the same problem as blind users. They cannot begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse the use of this attribute, trying to stuff it with keywords, looking to achieve a certain keyword density, which is not as relevant for rankings now as it once was.

On the contrary, high keyword density can, on some search engines, trigger spam filters, which may create a penalty for the site's ranking. Even without such a penalty, your site's rankings won't benefit from this plan.
This process also puts persons who use screen readers in a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that actually read aloud the items in what's displayed on the screen. In browsing the net, the alt attributes of images are read aloud too.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text that is then repetitions of numerous keywords. The page will be not even close to accessible, and, to put it mildly, would be found quite annoying.
What exactly is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute shouldn't be used like a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though many people use it in that fashion. Although it might seem natural to assume that alternate text is really a label or a description, it's not!

The words used within an image's alt attribute ought to be its text equivalent and convey exactly the same information or serve exactly the same purpose the image would.

The goal is to provide the same functional information that the visual user would see. The alt attribute text should be the "stand in" when the look is not available. Ask yourself this: Should you replace the look with the text, would most users get the same basic information, and would it create the same response?
A few examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If your search button is a magnifying glass or binoculars its alt text ought to be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If an image is meant to convey the literal contents of the image, a description is appropriate.

If it's meant to convey data, then that information is what is appropriate.

If it's designed to convey using a function, then your function itself is what ought to be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility as well as for valid XHTML.

For images that play only a decorative role in the page, make use of an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or perhaps a CSS background image so that reading browsers don't bother users by uttering things like "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it is the function of the image we're trying to convey. For example; any button images shouldn't range from the word "button" in the alt text. They should emphasize the action performed through the button.

Alt text should be based on context. The same image inside a different context may need drastically different alt text.

Attempt to flow alt text with the rest of the text because that is how it will be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone hearing your page should hardly remember that a graphic image is there.
Please remember that using an alt attribute for each image is required to satisfy the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and also the remainder of Europe. They are also necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in america.

It is useful to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are things that serve no purpose apart from to make a site visually appealing/attractive and (in many cases) satisfy the marketing departments. There is no content value (though there might be value to some sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there is something there which will enhance the usability of the site for someone using a non-visual user agent. Use a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is actually the middle layer of graphics which may actually set the atmosphere or set the stage as it were. These graphics aren't direct content and may not be considered essential, but they are essential in they help frame what's going on.

Attempt to alt-ify the 2nd group as is sensible and is relevant. There might be instances when doing this may be annoying or detrimental with other users. Then avoid it.

For instance; Alt text that is just like adjacent text is unnecessary, and an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such instances. But sometimes, it's important to get this content in there for all users.

Most times it depends on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text. Obviously, content should always be fully available. How you go in this case is really a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the look is the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes may also be in order.
The main reason many authors can't understand why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the images exist. You have to determined exactly what function an image serves. Think about what it is concerning the image that's important to the page's intended audience.

Every graphic has a reason for being on that page: because it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is advisable to what are the page is attempting to explain. Knowing what the image is for makes alt text simpler to write. And exercise writing them definitely helps.
A way to look into the usefulness of alternative text would be to imagine reading the page over the telephone to someone. What would you say when encountering a particular image to make the page understandable towards the listener?

Besides the alt attribute you've got a couple more tools at your disposal for images.
First, in level of descriptiveness title is within between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and may add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered by the user agent. Remember they are invisible and never shown as a "tooltip" when focus is received through the keyboard. (So much for device independence). So make use of the title attribute just for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points towards the URL of a full description of the image. If the information contained in an image is important to the meaning of the page (i.e. some important content will be lost if the image was removed), an extended description than the "alt" attribute can reasonably display ought to be used. It can provide for rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of the image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is really a long description of the image...The goal is by using any period of description necessary to impart the details of the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that the long description conjures an image - the image - in the mind's eye, an analogy that is true even for the totally blind."

Although the alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not every images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

Oftentimes, you're better off just going with your gut instinct -- if it's not necessary to include it, and if you don't have a strong urge to do it, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's necessary for the whole page to work, then you've to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a lot on the function of your image and it is context on the page.

The same image may require alt text (or title or longdesc) in a single spot, although not in another. If the image provides absolutely no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images may be appropriate to make use of. But if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt will be required and maybe a long description would be in order. In many cases this kind of thing is a judgement call.

Image Seo optimization Tips

Listed below are key stages in optimizing images:

Choose a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens in the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Stay away from underscores as a word separator, such as "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For example, if the image internet search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's likely to assume that the file is a photo, and if it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's going to assume that it is a graphic;

Ensure that the written text nearby the image that's highly relevant to that image.
Again, do not lose an excellent opportunity to help your website together with your images searching engines. Begin using these steps to rank better on all of the engines and drive more traffic for your site TODAY.

Manufacturers of retails goods need to leverage their Facebook presences to manage product recalls more cost effectively.

Some companies like Johnson & Johnson are starting so see the damage product recalls are costing in the modern age of fast information sharing — the company estimates over $900 million in lost sales and related expenditures last year. The brand is just one example are one of many companies that have undergone recalls in the last year and are still working to regain customers’ trust.

Cautionary tale

Kraft experienced a big debacle last year of moldy kids’ juices — and the problem is still continuing — so the creation of a Facebook tab to help manage the issues started out as very proactive. Alas, the tab moved to the very back of the page within days.

Moms were upset and consumers visiting the Facebook page for moldy juice information (many times referred there by a friend) thought the the tab appeared was missing rather than moved. Kraft learned the hard way that moms and other concerned parties wound up going elsewhere for information. They Googled the issue and stumbled across any pages mentioning it — including the brand-damaging image shown to the right.

Then other moms who were upset looked for information on Facebook and found groups like “I wont buy CAPRI sun till it comes in a clear juice package!!” Such groups had only a couple hundred members and no centralized, authoritative source of information, but instead had lots of unverified information further fueling hatred of the company. Perhaps Kraft should have created a page just for recalls or even just the juice recall, and that would have preserved the brand’s integrity on the site.

Three questions

Here are three important questions for product managers to think about amid recalls:

What does this mean for our search engine optimization?

    What about the amplification risk?

What would the newest consumer find about the brand online?

In case the anecdote above hasn’t sold you on why a product recall is best managed on Facebook, below are three reasons.

Facebook is free

Besides a staff or the intelligence behind outbound communications, social media in general is free. Companies have brand pages that were no cost to setup. Tabs are free to setup. Interested consumers generally like products they use. Put together is a stage and microphone, what is your corporation saying? Read 44% of Fortune 50 Brands Show Facebook Icons.

Leverage your fans

If fans and consumers are going to spread seemingly harmful information to keep their friends safe, companies should be the initiator of the dialogue. There could be encouragement to share recall information or even incentives like discounts. Some companies even have Facebook commerce pages for shopping, support for recalls and exchanges could be easily integrated.

Communicate with customers

While silence tends to be seen as the best policy in a real-time updated world, silence immediately is seen as guilt and even worse so, the holding back of information from consumers. Quick updates, even if on Facebook pages is a way to engage and even remind fans as to why they are following you. Even if the news is the most positive to share, consumers would be reminded why they choose to connect themselves with you.

Consumers understand mistakes happen and are happy to get involved. Facebook offers many ways to share information with others and track how conversations travel — that provides one of the best ways to manage a recall.

China is a notoriously tough market for American brands. The last few years has seen tech giants like Google struggle to do business due to restrictive censorship and retail giants like Best Buy and Home Depot have found that heavy price competition makes it hard to gain a toehold. Yet, despite the conventional wisdom, Apple’s business in China is booming and it’s not lower prices but better presentation that’s driving their success.

The Chinese economy is having some of its best years ever due to the rising world demand for consumer electronics, much of which is manufactured in China’s city-sized factories. The Mercury News reports that this has led to the average Chinese citizen being more flush with cash than ever before and ready to spend it on what would previously be deemed as unaffordable luxury.

Paul French of Shanghai-based Access Asia indicates that the increase in middle class affluence is behind the increase in purchasing power. “There is now enough of an urban middle class with enough money to afford Apple products. Five years ago — or even two or three years ago — there weren’t enough of those people.”

Five years ago, Apple didn’t have a retail store in China, now it has four, including a stunning split-level glass and metal flagship store in Sanlitun, an area of Beijing known more for its nightlife than its retail outlets. Those stores aren’t barely surviving either, with $2.6 billion in revenue this year, four times what we saw last year from Apple in China. This should mean that Apple is fighting the price war well in China, offering its products for less than they can be purchased in the US, but that’s not actually true. In fact, Apple sells a comparatively specced 13-inch Macbook Air for $180 more in China than it does stateside.

This success seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom, typically premium products have not sold well in cost conscious China. Some, like Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, say that Apple will have to eventually compete on price or risk losing the Chinese consumer. “The iPhone is going to be huge in China. That’s a given.” he tells the Mercury News. “But if Apple wants it to flow out across China, it has to come up with lower price points.”

Yet Apple shows no signs of slowing down in the Chinese market, which is projected to account for 10 percent of Apple’s revenue within 5 years.

When asked, locals said that in a country where the people like to try products out before they purchase them, Apple is doing the best job of presenting those products. Apple’s retail stores offer the Chinese consumer a chance to test the products in a beautiful and visually stimulating atmosphere and those efforts are paying off with big sales numbers. This kind of attention to the senses and emotions of the consumer wasn’t pioneered by Apple of course, but they are one of the first major companies to bring that kind of experience to China’s city centers in a big way.

This difference in the way that the products are presented is doing its job in separating Apple’s products from the rest of the pack almost everywhere that its retail stores are located, but nowhere is that effect felt more than in China. A country where consumers are hungry for polished products presented in a stimulating atmosphere and they finally have the cash to afford them.

During today’s Google earnings call, one analyst asked for some color on Google’s mobile business. CFO Patrick Pichette didn’t give much more in terms of specifics, but he did offer up some color. “Without any radical effort, we already announced at end of Q3 this is a $1 billion run-rate business,” says Pichette. Mobile is “growing at an amazing blazingly pace,” he says. “We tripped into $1 billion.”

Mobile search is definitely something Google is keenly focussed on. Senior VP of Local Jeff Huber noted on the call: ” In terms of where it trends over time, the smartphone is becoming an extension of the person, and how they do everything.”

Google is tackling that opportunity with mobile search obviously, but also with Android, which comes with Google search built-in as the default. Google is seeing 350,000 Android devices being activated a day.

Asked whether Google would have to build out a local salesforce with feet on the ground to take advantage of the new mobile and local advertising opportunities, sales chief Nikesh Arora didn’t rule out any possibilities. “we will use a combination of existing sales teams and methods and others that might be required,” he responded. Sounds like Google is picking itself up and going after the next billion dollars or two in mobile search.

Over the years, entrepreneurs and corporate executives have devised any number of clever ways for getting rich off the working poor, but you'd have to look long and hard to find one more diabolically inventive than the RAL. Say you have a $2,000 tax refund due and you don't want to wait a week or two for the IRS to deposit that money in your bank account. Your tax preparer would be delighted to act as the middleman for a very short-term bank loan—the RAL. You get your check that day or the next, minus various fees and interest charges, and in return sign your pending refund over to the bank. Within 15 days, the IRS wires your refund straight to the lender. It's a safe bet for the banks, but that hasn't stopped them from charging astronomical interest rates. Until this tax year, the IRS was even kind enough to let lenders know when potential borrowers were likely to have their refund garnished because they owed back taxes, say, or were behind on child support.

Hewitt didn't invent the refund anticipation loan. That distinction belongs to Ross Longfield, who dreamed up the idea in 1987 and took it to H&R Block CEO Thomas Bloch. "I'm explaining it," Longfield recalls, "but Tom is sitting there going, 'I don't know; I don't know if people are going to want to do that.'"

Tax-prep shops are as common as fast-food joints in many low-income neighborhoods—there are at least half a dozen on one three-block stretch of South Broadway in Yonkers, N.Y., where these photographs were taken. A few offer reasonably priced accounting, while others charge hundreds of dollars for 20 minutes of work. But Longfield knew. He worked for Beneficial Corp., a subprime lender specializing in small, high-interest loans for customers who needed to finance a new refrigerator or dining-room set. His instincts told him the RAL would be a big hit—as did the polling and focus groups he organized. "Everything we did suggested people would love it—love it to death," he says.

He also knew Beneficial would make a killing if he could convince tax preparers—in exchange for a cut of the proceeds—to peddle this new breed of loan on his employer's behalf. Ultimately, Longfield persuaded H&R Block to sign up. But no one was as smitten as John Hewitt—who understood that people earning $15,000 or $20,000 or $25,000 a year live in a perpetual state of financial turmoil. Hewitt began opening outposts in the inner cities, Rust Belt towns, depressed rural areas—anywhere the misery index was high. "That was the low-hanging fruit," he says. "Going into lower-income areas and delivering refunds quicker was where the opportunity was."

Customers wanting a RAL paid Jackson Hewitt a $24 application fee, a $25 processing fee, and a $2 electronic-filing fee, plus 4 percent of the loan amount. On a $2,000 refund, that meant $131 in charges—equivalent to an annual interest rate of about 170 percent—not to mention the few hundred bucks you might spend for tax preparation. "Essentially, they're charging people triple-digit interest rates to borrow their own money," says Chi Chi Wu, a staff attorney at the National Consumer Law Center.

In 1988, the first year he began offering the loans, Hewitt owned 49 stores in three states. Five years later, he had 878 stores in 37 states. And five years after that, when Cendant Corp.—the conglomerate that owned Avis, Century 21, and Days Inn—bought Jackson Hewitt for $483 million, his earliest backers received a $2 million payout on every $5,000 they'd invested. Today, with 6,000 offices scattered across the country, Jackson Hewitt is more ubiquitous than KFC, and has about as many imitators.

THERE WOULD BE NO refund anticipation loans, of course, without tax refunds. And by extension there would be no RALs without the Earned Income Tax Credit, the federal anti-poverty initiative that served as the mother's milk nourishing the instant-refund boom. Welfare reform was the catalyst for the EITC, which was aimed at putting extra cash in the pockets of low-income parents who worked. What motive does a single mother have to get a job, conservative thinkers asked, if there was scant difference between her monthly take-home pay and a welfare check? It was Richard Nixon who first floated the idea that led to the Earned Income Tax Credit; Ronald Reagan dubbed it "the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress." In 2007, the US Treasury paid out $49 billion to 25 million taxpayers.

Roofing Contractors Vancouver - 5 Questions to Really think

Roofing Vancouver - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion as an expert opinion. Most contractors will provide you with a free estimate. Get a summary of a couple trusted contractors and phone them well in advance of when you wish to get your roof fixed so you can compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this with your spouse or partner. (The kids could care less...at least the young ones.) The fact is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be viewed with bed hair. If you've got a good quality roof and you just have to repair it, it's worthwhile to pay for the price of the initial shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (hopefully!) and thus make a choice that best suits you and your family well or it'll stick out just like a sore thumb everyday you go home.

3. Must i replace the rooftop in order to sell the home for additional?

Consider this cautiously prior to making a decision. Depending on the roofing material you select, a new roof lasts anywhere from twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you have to check the year from the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of the 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the quality is the reason why the rooftop last longer, but if you're not likely to stay in your present home throughout your life, the higher expense may not be worth your investment. Although a brand new roof can enhance the worth of your value, the rise might not be enough to pay for neglect the and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Is it advisable that i can repair the rooftop myself?

Sure it's. But before you need to do, consult an expert first. You can do it yourself, but you shouldn't be a complete ‘lone ranger.' Depending on the extent of your repair, you might or may not convince you. Either way, it helps to get a professional eye about the problem first and maybe a free quote to help you do the math later and find out if it's truly worth your time and effort, sweat, and cash to be mister or miss fix-it.

5. Just when was a good time to find the roof replaced?

Weather can cause delays from days to weeks. Most people prepare yourself to have their roof replaced in the summer when they know someone will be home during the day for a solid two weeks. Once you've this era in mind, create a call to a trusted contractor months in advance to get a quote. Some companies get booked up fast and odds are, they're the most reputable. Preparing in advance from the summer also gives you time for you to ask around many compare costs...especially if you need to possess the roof done by a particular date.

Tacoma Roofing contractor: Make your Home Beautiful

Not many people view the value of a good roof, your knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer does. From first hand experience, they'll be able to let you know why you require a strong, secure, and leak-free roof in your home.

Your local Tacoma Roofing company is well aware how important an economic investment your house is for you personally, especially since it is a long term one. Your house might have been damaged slowly over the years and also you need to take steps to minimize this damage. For a lot of people, keeping their house beautiful is another matter of pride. You will find those too who'd prefer to turn their property right into a economical and efficient living place. Your roof is an integral part of your house and plays a role in each one of the aspects mentioned above. Because of this, you should employ the services of qualified a Tacoma Roofing contractors.

Types of Roofs installed by a Tacoma Roofing contractor

One of the more prevalent types of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each type of roof invites distinct problems, however they can all be easily taken care of with a trusted Tacoma Roofing contractor. It's imperative that you nip roof problems within the bud before they become too costly or dangerous. You can schedule a scheduled appointment with the Tacoma Roofing contractor to consider a glance at your roof to see if there are any issues or potential issues with it. If there are, they may be in a position to let you know how to deal with them.

A Tacoma Roofing contractor Helps to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors of any house, primarily the rooftop and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying climate conditions, every single day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters may be necessary. In some instances you may have to replace them completely. Usually, whenever your gutters show signs and symptoms of trouble, your homes roof also needs to be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there may be, an experienced Tacoma Roofing contractor can examine them in detail and suggest the remedy.

In case your gutters tend to clog all too often, or you will find leaks along the walls of your home, it may imply that there is debris piled-up on the top. Loose branches, piles of leaves, along with other light objects that are swept onto your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your homes roof, which damages could be lasting. An educated Tacoma Roofing company will explain that birds, mice, and other types of rodents often build nest in the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they're great at collecting moisture, be responsible for loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your house. Additionally, this may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing contractor will suggest that you inspect your roof for just about any signs and symptoms of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages with the Help of a Tacoma Roofer

However top quality the roof may be, it will eventually wear out with time. There are shingles that are referred to as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are only associated with warranty made by the makers. They hardly ever last that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles will not last a lot more than a few years. In an area that is vulnerable to storms, shingles or even the entire roof should get replaced every ten years. Having a Tacoma Roofing contractor, the price is going to be less than what you think.

If there you lose any shingles, or there is some damage to them, a Tacoma Roofer will be able to assist you to. Damaged shingles can result in indoor leaks, as the substrate of the roof becomes exposed to the sun and rain. Shingles which are loose or broken can slip off and pose a potential hazard to individuals standing below. Missing shingles produce a gap that allows rain, wind, ice, and debris to develop underneath the adjoining shingles, which creates a "domino effect" that affects other shingles and they become loose or broken. A comprehensive investigation will be produced by the local Tacoma Roofing contractor, should you call them up with your suspicions of loose or missing shingles.

Your Tacoma Roofing company will be in a position to inform you what the best option is perfect for your roof. In case your roof is not in a good shape, it's advised you have it replaced completely. The Tacoma Roofing contractor may take you thru the different roofing possibilities to you that will fit your requirements and your budget.

Tacoma Roofer: Improving your Home's Efficiency

Your homes roof shelters you against storms, sleet, and hail. By giving adequate ventilation, your homes roof protects your home from overheating, by holding in the heat, it keeps your home warm. What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are getting a roofing company to re roof your home or building then you can be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To begin with, the one huge difference is that often times a commercial roofing company might have signed a contract with and be obligated to a roofing union in in a position to work on union commercial jobs.

If this is the case then their labor costs will prohibit them from working on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if a commercial roofing company hasn't signed an agreement having a union they might be outfitted simply for commercial jobs which of course means their workers and equipment may not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors in general often run smaller companies and hence, tend to be more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which are usually smaller than comercial jobs. Actually, often times residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, where the contractor that you simply speak with could be the one which actually does the work about the building.

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more epensive and a larger bond is needed for any commercial roofing work which will make it not cost effective for any commercial roofing contractor to do residential roofing jobs.

Still an additional factor is the fact that commercial jobs can run on tighter time frame for just about any quantity of reasons, requiring a commercial contractor to train on a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs less profitable on their behalf.

Distinction between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Did you know that the rooftop of a building has a huge impact on the entire structure itself? Damage caused to roofs due to natural or another disasters causes a considerable lack of property everywhere. The kind of materials used to construct the rooftop which should be sturdy and long-lasting, the manner where the roof continues to be installed as well as its timely maintenance are extremely crucial. There are two kinds of roofs that are used on all of the buildings that people see around us: commercial and residential. Although it may seem that commercial roofing is done just for businesses or offices and residential roofing is done for apartments and houses, in reality the differences tend to be more complex than that.

residential by jpignanello

Residential roofing is generally completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing usually takes an entire team to complete the task. This is because a commercial roof tends to be larger in terms of square feet than the usual residential roof.
Commercial roofs are necessary carefully keeping the nature and purpose of your building in your mind. For example, if there is a cafe or restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes will be required. Residential roofs tend not to have such components apart from a chimney or two at most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to support further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks along with other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is much more expensive than residential roofing because of the special tools, materials and safety equipment which are needed onsite. Often the patching or maintenance jobs are done in segments unlike for any residential roof in which the repair or replacement work could be completed in a short time. This is one more reason why the gear used for residential roofs is usually smaller and less expensive as well.
Commercial roof installations have a extended period to accomplish in comparison to residential roof installations and are usually constructed in large sections. In this phase however, it is important to ensure that there are no leakages, cracks or other visible wear and tear signs as it can cause considerable harm to the whole building.
It is important to install the best roof for any building depending on its purpose. Ensure that you hire a construction company that uses first class materials and it has the right equipment for the job or your investment risk turning out to be considered a huge loss later.

Commercial Roofing by jpignanello

For instance it may be harder to operate on a business during business hours so either the business has to be shut down for that repair or replacement or the job needs to be done after conventional business hours. Is the roofer you are thinking about for the job ready to operate around your schedule constrictions which might involve working weekends or evenings?

When you start your search for any roofer not only do you have to answer those questions but you also want to find someone which will perform a high quality job without a lot of time delays. Going about finding someone can feel like an obstacle by itself but there are several ways to make the search easier.

Ask friends and family for referrals and try to find at least three contractors to give you written bids on your job. Before you go any more you have to ensure that the contractors you are considering are fully licensed and bonded. A simple search using the state contractor's board will verify in case your roofer is licensed and if there are any past judgments or claims against their license.

When you select three or four roofers to place bids, you need to prepare yourself for that bids to become widely varied. Roofers will have brand preferences that will vary and may element in more or less than the next guy for any labor estimate. The more detailed an itemized bid may be the more helpful it will be to focus on where the cost are going to be incurred. Don't, however, pick a roofer based solely about the bid price. Any low ball bids might be tempting to consider, but if they're low because of poor quality workman ship it might not be worthwhile ultimately.

As they say, you generally get what you pay for, so if you are able to afford a mid-priced bid it's always smart to increase in your price range rather than down. Additionally you ought to decide your roofer depending on how professional they were and just how comfortable you anticipate you will be dealing with them.

Finally your cost will be different depending on which kind of roofing material you select along with the cost to haul your old roof to the landfill. If you are looking for places to chop corners on your roof, rather than cutting labor cost you may want to ask about metallic roof option. Metal roofs could be cost effective and efficient which makes them overall money savers for that long run, as well as on commercial buildings they can be very low maintenance. Plus given that they can be put along with a current roof, you don't need to have the old one removed and hauled away, that make a big impact on your cost.

It is also a great idea to receive a past client reference who were built with a complaint that was resolved towards the satisfaction from the client.
The payment schemes. What are the the payment schemes to do the job? What is the deposit and amount due upon completion? Even though it is certainly reasonable that a substantial payment be produced before a contractor begins work on a project, it is strongly advised that full payment is not made until following the entire job is finished.
Written contract. All the roofing replacement ought to be put in an itemized contract. No part of the contracting job should depend on verbal assurances.

Manufacturer Warranty. Quality materials for roofing typically come with a warranty. You should verify that there's actually a warranty on the materials being installed. Request a copy from the warranty.
Period of time in Business Just how long has got the company you are interviewing experienced business? A brief amount of time in business may reflect instability. When the contractor has been in business less than 3 years, verify how long they have been in the market. A new contractor may have many years experience working on roofs before they form their very own business. Seek a company that has been around for 3 years, or in which the contractor has had many more years performing roofing replacements. This again shouldn't be the only factor, everyone has to start sometime. Balance this with referrals and also the other points raised in this article.
Appropriate Permits. A Seattle roofer should know what permits are needed for repairing your roof. They should be aware of how you can obtain these permits on your behalf. Ask the contractor whether they will have the permits essential to repair the roof.
Liability. If your worker becomes injured, who's accountable for the workers comp? When the contractor's equipment damages your house, who's responsible for the repairs? A good contractor will provide certificates of insurance for liability and worker's compensation before they start fixing your roof.
Subcontractors. Verify whether the contractor will be using subcontractors. If that's the case, it is strongly advised that everything contained in this article for verifying whether the contractor is credible also needs to be relevant to subcontractors. You should get the names and license numbers of all subcontractors. You should verify whether each subcontractor is also insured which means you are not held liable for their accidents.
Pending Legal Actions. It is important to verify whether you will find any legal actions from the contractor. This is not merely essential for verifying if the roofing company is legitimate (credible roofing companies should not need to defend themselves in the court), it is also important just because a lost lawsuit could cause the contractor to visit bankrupt. For those who have made a substantial deposit for services immediately prior to the company goes bankrupt, you can lose many thousands of dollars and never have your roofing completed.
Material Disposal. Who is accountable for getting rid of the waste generated in the roof being replaced? Will your contractor handle every aspect of this? Is there an additional cost for disposing of this waste?
NRCA Membership. Membership in local or national roofing associations, like the NRCA, shows resolve for staying current with the most effective means of roof replacement and maintenance. Find a roofer having a high standard of education regarding their trade.
Replacing your roof is really a significant investment. Celebrate sense to ask serious questions before using a roofing contractor. Here are a few more tips that you should consider when selecting the best roofing contractor for your upcoming roofing replacement.

Payment. Don't make a full payment for services unless all jobs are finished.
Inspection. Do not make a full payment without doing a final inspection of services rendered.
Workers liens. Don't fully pay for the roofing replacement job until worker's lien releases have been obtained.
Oral Agreements. No agreement should be made verbally without backing up on paper. Every point which are vital that you you ought to be made in writing.

Internet Marketing by MEL197127

There was a time when seo was actually not required.

Whilst late like a decade ago, in the event you developed a Web site anywhere, Google indexed it and you gained visibility in its search engine results. Your page has been with a free "estates" where anybody could put in a page and Google didn't mind. It may likewise have been a pure affiliate page with no original content and Google still indexed it.

The situation is unrecognizably different now.

Affiliate pages with "cookie-cutter" content duplicated everywhere might never reach the Google index; the identical fate is likely for anyone pages you toss in over a free-for-all website. And even "proper" websites with your own url of your website failed to achieve visibility on the list of proliferating sites in millions.

These wouldn't have mattered, with the exception of something. It had been Google that provided the bread and butter for your millions of small enterprises that could not afford expensive marketing campaigns. If the site was on the list of top few sites the appeared before a searcher's eyes when that individual sought out your product, you've got hundreds and also thousands of visitors, a lot of whom even bought your products.

Search engine marketing (SEO) entered the scene. Search results specialists "reverse-engineered" to spot the factors that Google consider for showing websites towards the top of its search results pages. These factors were then consciously incorporated into your Web pages with the hope that Google will show your internet site among the first ten results it showed on the first page.

As more of one's competitors adopted search engine optimization practices, things became difficult again. Your position began to slip if your competitors did the SEO better. SEO battles became serious fights with every dirty trick being employed.

There was "black hat" SEO practitioners who showed one page to look engines and the other to human visitors. As search engines like google are not bothered with readability, you might fill the "search engine" page with pure gibberish, but gibberish designed in wherein the engine dutifully indexed high.

A war of wits followed between unscrupulous SEO practitioners and search engines. Google changed its ranking algorithms regularly to operate around practices that allowed low value content to seem towards the top of its search results. In the end, Google's success depended on providing value to searchers, not merchants. And SEO practitioners came up with new tricks.

We will look at search engine optimization in the series of articles, starting off with an look and feel at on-line or Web marketing.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

AFP
Uyghur men and women chat outside a mosque in Urumqi, July 17, 2009.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Roofing West Vancouver Problems

Roofing Vancouver

In Vancouver extra care is required when obtaining a estimate for any house. A roofing contractor in Vancouver must know exactly what they are dealing with when getting your roof away. Unforeseen expenses are a typical situation within Vancouver and every owner should be prepared

Heritage- becoming among the oldest places within the GVRD you can realize that there are several fairly old houses. Having a steep pitch roofing, probably near 12/12 message that essentially indicates Forty five diploma angle roof. The initial roofing was cedar shake sitting on taping. I'm not sure if it was being laid back or the norm, if everyone was attempting to save money but if you've this roofing you most likely got more than one layer on the roof. The original is still upon and a pair of other levels sit above the actual cedar tremble. I've come across home where 5 levels sitting on top of the home. Based on building code nowadays a Vancouver Roofing contractor should eliminate just about all layers if a new roof will be placed over. You people often pay more due to the steepness, the actual few layers of roofing, the plyboard deck and the trouble. You are probably two feet out of your neighbours

Roofing Vancouver

Low Downward slope - Vancouver unique homes operate all through East Vancouver. The actual minor problem with these homes when it comes to roofing is the fact that dwindling roofing businesses out there do tar residue as well as tiny rocks. The option you've is actually flashlight upon or even metal. Asphalt shingles can't continue these houses. Your own message is to low and asphalt most likely would not final 10 years. Vancouver Roofing companies which have been in the commercial associated with flashlight upon in excess of ten years are probably reliable. Ice and snow build up on these rooftops cause mini swimming pools to build up on your roofing as well as trigger major seeping, keep the rain gutters as well as downpipes clear.

Vancouver MethGuy by SouthIsland

Low Slope or even High Slope cedar shake -- In Vancouver this is typical on the Western aspect. There is not much to say of Cedar in Vancouver. There is an extended period with the 60's, 70's as well as Eighties when Vancouver Roofing businesses were not setting up cedar. The majority of Cedar roofs are brand new construction. cedar is the one product that the majority of problems can be determined before the function starts

Reduced Slope or Steep Downward slope Asphalt roofing -- If you have asphalt roofing also it hasn't been transformed in the last 10 years then you have a solid deck. Since the 1970's asphalt came into the market. With brand new construction shiplap or even also known as tongue as well as dance had been the only choice of the strong outdoor patio. Shiplap techniques a great deal during the cold months and in summer time so plyboard should be split lower by the roofing contractor

Roof covering in Burnaby

Roof covering within Burnaby might have its challenges and also the easiest way to undergo them all is to work through North to South starting towards the top of Burnaby. Within North Burnaby the hills start to slope as well as decrease to some fairly strong perspectives. The big problems I've found listed here are front yard steepness as well as access to the home, although this may not seem like a issue for you it is a truly major problem for any roofer that has to hand carry your old roofing up the slope as well as hand carry your brand-new roofing down the slope.

Hard, a slope region in this area stored building companies away and as a result you've homes that were just about all constructed by individually hired construction companies. There are several portions associated with North Burnaby which have small contractors houses just about all constructed together however to the degree that Main Burnaby offers. North Burnaby offers more fascinating constructed designs and rooftops making a ball recreation area determine estimate in this area pretty hard.

Burnaby Roofing

Central Burnaby is where large building companies having a regular architectural method of building the house was pretty busy throughout the 70`s and earlier 80`s. Having a shiplap outdoor patio becoming the only choice and asphalt tiles becoming the option as well as positioned on a house. These days shiplap is the roofing contractors adversary due to the fact the shingles of today aren't designed to work with shiplap. Trying to persuade central Burnaby they need to re-deck the roof with plyboard offers often been overlooked and even for good reason.

The caliber of shiplap has elevated levels of this region with many from it that I know of becoming in between Six and Eight in . that is ideal. Apart from that this particular a part of Burnaby is fairly easy to roofing along with access not an issue everything often and a obvious style in sloped roof that is easy to understand. A lot of Vancouver special offers centered right here in order to with flashlight upon becoming the main choice from the original tar as well as tiny rocks option. Cedar rooftops often sprinkle the actual east side of this area with most transforming to asphalt

Southern Burnaby has a tendency to have bigger rooftops that are sprinkled with asphalt as well as cedar tremble. Cedar tremble roofs in this area are generally through houses close to 20 years old. This house tends to transform into a asphalt roofing and many possess alright access however, many do not and the roofs aren't everything in order to high. Some asphalt rooftops down right here have plywood patio's which is usually a large saving idea for any property owner

West Vancouver Roofing

West Vancouver is a area associated with valley's and side rails, high drive-ways as well as concealed rooftops. This can be a roofing contractors headache however there are roof covering companies who work in the area and understand what they most likely could be coping with. Unlike other metropolitan areas within the Metro Vancouver area, big building businesses did not buy big monitors associated with land and build designed suv cul-de-sacs. They are doing can be found however to a smaller degree compared to other cities. As a result you can find in a single road Twenty homes all constructed differently. I suppose because of the property landscape it was the only way to obtain houses built-in some areas.

There was certainly a boom during the 70's through the shear number of shiplap decks out there. The majority of roofs within West Vancouver that require an upgraded tend to be asphalt rooftops which sit on a shiplap deck. They shingle is normally a interlock shingle that was made for shiplap however no longer available in the Greater Vancouver area. Most property owners in West Vancouver are learning that they now need a plywood outdoor patio to pay for the shiplap.

Cedar Roof by Ted Knegt

Several Cedar roofs exist in West Vancouver but not much that requires changing. The majority of 20 years old cedar tremble rooftops within West Vancouver happen to be replaced which means you find a cedar roof in some places. Changing cedar along with cedar is not the just about all in order to typical practise and most Cedar rooftops are in new building.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver specials aren't just about all in order to common in West Vancouver. Flashlight upon as well as tar residue and tiny rocks can be obtained but not recommended. The actual rain and wind tends to be a little more extreme within West Vancouver, using the large quantities associated with trees and shrubs and the chance of huge snowfall fall steel is really a higher suggestion.

Getting a roof estimation in West Vancouver can be quite different than the person living right next door. if you have the steep driveway, have a roof that's higher than Thirty levels and also over Two thousand sq ft than you can spend a lot more than $ 2000 compared to your neighbor. The kind of roofing as well as quantity of pulsating can produce a huge difference. In West Vancouver it is very tough to golf ball park a price with this very reason. I suppose you can say based on the little property you reside upon and also the style from the roofing could make a big difference from a high estimation along with a reduced estimation. Roofing access is a huge problem with a few roofers having to hands have that old roofing more than hundred ft compared to hand carrying the brand new roof one hundred feet to the house.

Get 3 estimates to check apples with apples and for the same product, gives you a chance to educate yourself and ask the best questions. The majority of roofs in West Vancouver is below ventilated so make certain when you are getting your roof estimation you can see if every estimate you get will change your ventilation or your new roofing won't last. The extra air flow isn't the addition price so the more the merrier, you cannot have a limit upon air flow. Tree debris is really a issue so maintain your roof with no damage the rooftop item. leak motorized inflator has become the best type of maintenance.
